The Fluke ST120+ GFCI Socket Tester is a tool designed to check the proper connection of each wire in an electrical outlet to the building's electrical system. It features a series of bright LEDs and an included chart to help quickly and easily verify the outlet's wiring or identify several common wiring issues such as reversed phase and neutral wires or an open ground.

The device is straightforward to use; it simply plugs into an outlet, and the LEDs provide a visual indication of the wiring status. It can diagnose six different wiring conditions, which are clearly indicated by combinations of the LEDs. These conditions include correct installation, open ground, open neutral, open hot, hot/neutral reversed, and hot/ground reversed.
